Findon SchoolTeachersOne of the most important assets that any school can have is the stability and commitment of its teaching staff. This is shown in abundance by the five key teachers at Findon Village School - between them they devoted 36 years to the school!
Penelope BoolePenelope was the school's Head Teacher and dedicated 9½ years to Findon out of her total of 20 years' teaching experience. Penelope was trained at the Froebel Educational Institute and studied textiles as her own subject at college. As well as fulfilling her Head Teacher responsibilities, she is also the school's co-ordinator for Music, History and RE. Penelope's personal and working interests are never far apart, particularly in the area of travel, where she loves exploring France and Italy. She has visited schools in both these countries and is very interested in comparing educational systems in France and Italy with our own. Penelope brought with her a wealth of varied experience; her affection for and commitment to the school are evident, as she listed one of the high spots of her career as "being appointed to Findon".
Elizabeth (Liz) CookLiz has been the Year 5 & 6 Teacher (Class 4) for the past two years, and her career at Findon has progressed through teaching Classes 1 and 2 with great success. Liz graduated from Brighton College of Education in 1970 and we have been fortunate enough to have her at Findon for the last 9 years. Liz is a true all-rounder! In the past, her teaching specialities have been Science, English and Special Needs. At present, she co-ordinates Maths, PE and Staff Development. Liz's love of a challenge is clearly reflected in the success she has had with the introduction of Developmental Writing eight years ago and the development of Maths throughout the school over the past two years. Class 4 have also gained a real treat from one of Liz's own personal interests - Country Music! Findon Village School can now boast one of the fittest and best co-ordinated Junior Line Dancing teams in the area!
Carol WestCarol has been the teacher in charge of Years 3 & 4 (Class 3) for the past five years. Carol trained at Loughborough College and we are very pleased that she settled with us at Findon 9 years ago. Carol's technological skills and teaching specialities have resulted in her role of Science co-ordinator and ICT Subject Manager. She extends this role into running the school's Computer Club: an out-of-hours activity giving small groups of children individual attention and exposure to IT equipment and the opportunity to master a variety of computer programs. Largely due to Carol's skills and commitment, Findon Village School can truly hold its head up in the technological age! Gill ThomasGill has been the Year 2 & 3 Teacher (class 2) for the past three years, after initially teaching Class 1. Gill was originally trained at the W.S. Institute and has devoted 6 out of her 7 years teaching experience to Findon. Gill's teaching specialities are Art, Technology and English. She has taken responsibility for the early introduction into school of the literacy hour programme, to which she has devoted a great deal of time and effort. Gill runs the school's after school Art Club. Her skills, particularly in the area of Art, are truly inspirational, as all the children who have been touched by her ideas and imagination will agree!
Katie DeanKatie is the Class 1 Teacher (Reception and Year 1). Katie completed her teaching practice two years ago, and we were very fortunate to snap her up immediately before she could go anywhere else! Katie specialises in Geography and teaches Recorders. She has watched the progress of the building of the new classroom at the school with great interest and is excited at the opportunity to help develop and equip this totally fresh and bright area for her young charges! Katie brings freshness, enthusiasm and energy to all of her challenges - her energy is particularly apparent in her list of personal interests: swimming, cycling, aerobics and roller-blading! |
