Findon Cricket Club was established in 1867. Its ground
and pavilion (which are owned by the Club Trustees) are situated beside
the A280 Long Furlong [aerial photograph / map].
The current membership consists of approximately 60
senior playing, 60 junior playing and over 100 Vice Presidents and
social members.
The Club fields three XI's both Saturday's (league) and
Sunday's (friendlies) May to August, with a slightly reduced fixture
list in September.
The Findon Cricket Club have enjoyed considerable
success since the inception of League Cricket nearly 20 years ago, but
1997 was an unusually fallow year throughout the Senior sides.
A feature of recent years has been the hosting of a
number of prestigious events at the Club. The Old England XI lead by
Jim Parks have played the Findon First XI twice, several Sussex Benefit
matches have taken place in addition to Six-a-Side festivals featuring
current Middlesex and Sussex County players.
The importance of developing Junior players is
recognized by the Club and boys from 10 to under 16 have a full
programme of matches available to complement both Winter and Summer
coaching provided by the Club. The Club were proud winners of the
coveted under 16 Sussex Junior Cricket Festival Tournament in 1991.
Many current Senior players have been with the Club since their Junior
days.
The Club is keen to maintain its facilities. Over the
last few years the pavilion has been extended incorporating new showers
and toilets and the bar and lounge area have also been upgraded. In
addition on the playing side new nets and artificial wicket have been
installed and the Club has been able to finance these through monies
raised at the bar and Social events.
