Do you hate it when you are trying to enjoy your meal in
a restaurant and people are smoking at the next table? More and more of
us, it seems, are insisting on a healthy environment in public places -
that means keeping away from the health risks discomfort and
irritation of other people's tobacco smoke.
Sussex Alliance on Smoking and Health (SASH) publishes a free 35-page
booklet called: Sussex Smoke Free Guide to Eating &
Drinking which offers an informed choice of a wide variety
of venues with either 100% smoke-free facilities, or a good smoke-free
area. You will find pubs and restaurants in East and West Sussex where
you can breathe clean air while you enjoy your meal or drink. You can
pick up a copy of the booklet from public libraries or direct from
the Health Promotion Centre: Tel 01903 708 673
The SASH booklet covers venues in the following council areas in West
Sussex: Adur, Arun, Chichester, Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and
Worthing. The booklet also covers venues in the following council areas
of East Sussex: Brighton and Hove, Lewes, Hastings, Wealden, Rother and
Eastbourne.
SASH represents a range of organisations across Sussex led by the NHS,
working to reduce public exposure to passive smoking or ETS (environmental tobacco smoke).
SASH aims to support smoke free public environments and help create
informed choices about where people eat, drink and pursue leisure
activities.
Although only around 30% of pubs report having smoke free policies, pub
owners who have tried smoke-free areas have found them very popular.
There is no charge for entry in the SASH guide.
